When Greenwood Holistic Farm was established in 2002, it wasn’t built on generations of inherited knowledge; it was built on determination. Owners Tina and Dan Greenwood had a dream to farm livestock as a means to provide their family with clean, humanely-raised, chemical-free food.

We had a wonderful conversation in early April 2026, and here's a look at the topics we discussed:

A First-Generation Farm Built with Purpose

We spoke with Dan on a busy weekday afternoon, ironically, immediately following a customer support call with our team, so it seems we both had a lot of questions.

As a first-generation farm, the Greenwoods had to move quickly to create a viable, sustainable farm operation. They are focused on regenerative practices and producing clean, high-quality food. The farm serves customers who are increasingly intentional about what they eat, some of whom were even guided by medical recommendations.

“We didn’t have 15 or 20 years to slowly build this, we had to figure it out and move forward quickly.” Dan Greenwood (all of the subsequent quotes are from our interview with Dan)

Today, Greenwood Holistic Farm raises Belted-Galloway cattle, Cornish Cross hens, and hogs, selling directly to consumers through on-farm sales and local markets. Their mission is simple: produce clean food in a system that respects the land.

The Reality of Running a Small Livestock Operation

Like many small farms, Greenwood faces a constant balancing act between producing enough to meet demand and not overextending its resources. Here are some real-world examples that Greenwood Holistic Farm uses.

How do I Maintain a Steady Inventory Supply on My Farm?

Maintaining a steady supply is one of their biggest challenges. A single unexpected loss, such as a piglet, can disrupt their ability to meet customer demand. That uncertainty even made them hesitant to expand into online sales.

“You worry about selling too fast and not having enough product to fulfill orders.”

Behind the scenes, another challenge was quietly compounding the problem: recordkeeping.

Before adopting Farmbrite, the farm relied on paper receipts, notebooks, and manual tracking systems.

“Everything was in a file cabinet. When it came time for taxes, you were digging through receipts trying to piece everything together.”

The process was time-consuming, inefficient, and made it nearly impossible to understand true costs or make informed decisions throughout the year.

Why Greenwood Holistic Farm Chose Farmbrite

The team at Greenwood wasn’t just looking for software; they needed a system that could handle the complexity of a livestock-based farm operation.

Farmbrite stood out for a few key reasons:

“It felt like a one-stop shop. Other tools were focused more on produce—this actually fit what we were doing.”

For a farm operating with limited early revenue, affordability also played a role, making the decision easier.

Turning Inventory Into a Strategic Advantage

One of the most immediate impacts of Farmbrite came through improved inventory tracking.

By integrating Square (used at farmers' markets) with Farmbrite, sales now automatically sync with inventory levels. eliminating hours of manual tracking each month.

“When something sells, it deducts right from inventory. That alone saves us hours.”

This visibility has changed how the farm operates. Instead of guessing, they now know exactly what’s in stock and when supply is running low.

“If we’ve got 400 pounds of chicken breast, we can see when it starts getting low and plan accordingly.”

That level of insight has helped reduce risk, improve planning, and build confidence in expanding sales channels.

Understanding the True Cost of Farming

Beyond inventory, Farmbrite has given Greenwood something even more valuable: clarity on costs.

From feed inputs to production expenses, the farm can now track and analyze what it actually costs to raise their livestock.

“We can figure out the cost to raise one chicken, our break-even point—it’s all there.”

This data-driven approach allows them to make smarter pricing decisions and better evaluate profitability across their operation, something that simply wasn’t possible with their old system.

Saving Time and Simplifying Complexity

Time is one of the most limited resources on any farm.

Farmbrite helps Greenwood Farm streamline everyday farm tasks, from logging purchases to tracking soil test results, all in one place.

“We used to rely on Excel for some things, paper for others. Now it’s all in one system.”

The result of using Farmbrite? Hours saved each month and a much clearer picture of the farm’s performance. Even features like equipment tracking and maintenance logging are opening new opportunities for long-term cost management.

“Being able to track maintenance and tie that back to costs—that’s huge for deciding if equipment is worth keeping.”

A System That Grows with the Farm

Greenwood Holistic Farm isn’t standing still. Future plans include:

Farmbrite is positioned to support that growth, providing the operational backbone needed to scale thoughtfully.

The Human Side of Technology

While features matter, Greenwood emphasized something just as important: support.

“You’re not getting a chatbot response. You get a real answer within 24 to 48 hours.”

Whether it’s quick instructional videos or jumping on a call, the Farmbrite team has helped make a robust system feel approachable.

“It’s powerful, but they help you learn it. That makes all the difference.”

Advice for the Next Generation of Farmers

As a first-generation farm, Greenwood has learned hard lessons—and they’re quick to share them. Their advice is direct:

  • Move quickly—don’t wait for perfect conditions

  • Be willing to step outside your comfort zone

  • Build your systems early, especially for financial tracking

“If you take baby steps, it takes too long to build something that works.”

Starting with the right tools from day one can save years of frustration and set the foundation for long-term success!

Looking Ahead

Greenwood Holistic Farm continues to evolve, balancing regenerative principles with practical business growth.

With better data, stronger systems, and clearer visibility into their operation, they’re no longer reacting, they’re planning...and they're doing it with Farmbrite.

And that shift, from uncertainty to confidence, may be the most important outcome of all.
